Trauma and Attachment:
In this episode, IoPT Midwife May Sunita discusses the importance of addressing your traumas and experiences during pregnancy and childbirth, how the child is influenced right from conception, and the crucial mother-child attachment.
IoPT stands for Identity-Oriented Psychotrauma Theory. This is a therapeutic approach developed by Professor Dr. Franz Ruppert over the past 30 years, based on established trauma-attachment theories, and includes both self-experienced and transgenerational traumas. Read more at www.iopt.no.
It is a gentle and effective form of therapy. IoPT is about reconnecting with oneself. To one’s own identity. Who am I… Why do I do what I do… What do I want…
Traumas don’t simply disappear on their own but are stored in the body and create unconscious behaviors. When IoPT Midwife May Sunita refers to traumas, she means a past experience or event that becomes overwhelming at that time.
In the documentary film “The Wisdom of Trauma,” Dr. Gabor Maté says, “Trauma is not what happens to you. Trauma is what happens inside you as a result of what happens to you. Trauma is the invisible force that shapes our life. It shapes the way we live, the way we love, and the way we make sense of the world.”
The film “In Utero” shows how the child’s psyche is already influenced in the mother’s womb and how this impact shapes us. Watch the trailer at https://www.iopt.no/in-utero/.
For many, this is a new way of thinking, but we know that babies sense and have their own psyche from the moment of conception. The film features renowned researchers and professionals in the field of trauma.
IoPT Midwife May Sunita possesses a deep understanding of trauma and midwifery competence, which she applies in her practice. She provides a space for safety and understanding and takes the time to establish a secure relationship through conversations based on IoPT trauma theory and research.
““Everything we need to process traumas is stored in the body and emerges when we need it.”
Prof. Dr. Franz Ruppert
